Looking after students of the Wilkes Academy

Looking After You.

We’re the accomodation partner for the Wilkes Academy of Performing Arts in Swindon. Should you be successful in getting a place, we hope to welcome you in the new academic year.

We’re more than just a regular landlord for students of the Wilkes Academy. Often, this is the first-time students live away from home. With our team, we keep an eye on your welfare, take an interest in your progress and do our best to help you through this period of transition.

Swindon is an exciting and thriving town with plenty of things to do, day and night. It has grown quickly over the past few years, earning itself a reputation as a leading town for business, sport and leisure, the arts and shopping. There really is something for everyone: it boasts an eclectic mix of independent shops, pubs and clubs and stylish cafés and bars (and yes, even a Nando’s!).

Most of our accommodation is a short distance from the train station, meaning you’ll be around a 45 minute journey from Bristol, Bath and Reading, and just over an hour away from London.

How it works.

First Year Students

The Wilkes Academy publish their cohort list in the summer before term starts in September. As this is a short turn around, we house first year students at our flagship property The Bell Hotel in the heart of Old Town. We have a mixture of single and shared rooms and all the facilities you need to live independently while making new friends.

Second & Third Year Students

After forming friendship group with peers in your cohort in your first year, we place groups of second and third year students in flats and houses around Swindon. These range from two bedroom flats to four bedroom houses and we work with you to place you in preferred groups. Every property is within a 20-minute drive of the Wilkes Academy studios.

A testimonial from the Wilkes Academy.

Chris James Accommodation has been our housing partner since 2012 and during this time, they’ve looked after our students’ accommodation needs efficiently and demonstrated an exemplary level of care. They often go above and beyond to help our students adapt to living away from home, whether that’s checking in on someone who isn’t feeling well or helping them organise the finances to support their accommodation fees. We’d happily recommend Chris James Accommodation and I look forward to continuing our partnership with them.

Get ready

Once you’ve successfully gained a place at the academy, we’ve compiled a list of activities for you to try over the summer to help you prepare for living away from home for the first time. Now some of these may seem very obvious, but they’re only included if we’ve had students struggle in the past.
